11 random things about me… [that you probably didnt know]

In all my years of blogging I have never actually written a “random things about me” post. I possibly could have come up with more, but 11 is enough for now…. Enjoy!

11 random things about me…

I think dessert (+ morning tea and afternoon tea) is the best part of the day! Despite all of my health and nutrition training I still think sugar is the best thing ever!!!  I love to experiment in the kitchen (so let me know if you ever want to drop buy and taste test) and try to recreate my old favourite recipes to be a little more healthier… Check out some of my fave recipes here…

I don’t drink coffee. Cant stand the smell of it and have never understood the obsession (and dependance) people have with it. There were times years ago when I was working 9-5 and I really wished I had a ‘magic potion’ to help me get through my days like everyone else did… Turns out leaving the corporate world was the answer I needed! So, not drinking coffee (or tea – I actually don’t really love hot liquids) makes it really hard to catch up with friends or clients “for coffee”. Or go and sit in a cafe with a gorgeous view and work… Side note – I don’t drink soft drink, try to avoid dairy, and have similar views towards beer and wine (and all alcohol) as my views on coffee. Water is my beverage of choice…

Cheese. No thanks. Yep – I am sometimes a pain in the behind to dine with…

I kinda want a tattoo. Not something huge, just beautiful and discreet. But then I think it will hurt so I have never done anything about it… Really though – natural birth with no drugs – could anything hurt more than that??

My first job was at KFC during high school. It got to the point where I was getting so many of the late night shifts (being so reliable and responsible as I was) that my parents stepped in and said enough was enough. I hate to imagine the smell of fryer fat on me after all those hours working in the kitchen… Back then, KFC was kinda expensive compared to other take out options, so it was something our family would have every few months at the most. Huge novelty to work there!

I have always loved Science… Biology, Chemistry, Physics – loved it all (and surprisingly hated art at school). I studied Radiography after high school in 1997, and loved the theory but absolutely hated the prac in the hospital at the end of the first year. So I got a job over Christmas and never went back. Studying Health Sciences was always in the back of my mind, but the timing was never right. After months of research (and studying to become a health coach over the last year) I enrolled to study Nutritional Medicine last week. See my post about how to be Courageous here. Life is about to get a whole lot busier and I get to embrace my inner nerd! Yippee!

random things about me

Science and dessert…. heaven!

When pregnant with my gorgeous daughter Liana 11 years ago I was adamant the whole time that the baby was a boy. Everything was referred to as “he” and although I had a girls name that I adored, and brought girls clothes, I felt that I was saving these for the next baby. It got to the point where 2 days before my due date I had a massive freak out that the baby was never going to come out until we had at least a shortlist of boys names. Her Dad and I still couldn’t come up with any names, but (possibly to save me having a mental breakdown) baby arrived the next day, and – it’s a girl! She got the name I adored, and the beautiful clothes, and we never looked back. I guess my intuition wasn’t quite so strong back then!

8 months of extreme morning sickness. 3 stays in hospital. Excusing myself mid meal to run to the bathroom, and then coming back to eat the rest of my meal (I was soooo hungry!) Back before it had a name, or any medications to treat, I simply had to tough ‘morning sickness’ out. Oh and there were a few instances of vomiting in the gutter. I didn’t look pregnant (due to the fact I couldn’t keep any food down) – so I am sure the neighbours wondered what was going on…

All of my photography, design and business knowledge has been self taught. I have no qualifications what so ever, and everything I do (and know) is the result of patience, and thousands of hours of practice, short courses and workshops and trial + error. Go me!

I absolutely can not stand any form of aerobic exercise class. I am extremely uncoordinated and it seems my brain needs to think too much about what step is next, which means I am always a fraction of a step behind everyone else with arms and legs flailing and completely stressed out. I go left when everyone else goes right… Absolutely mortifying! I then imagine that other people are laughing at me, and things get worse and worse… Really though – does anyone enjoy step classes?

I don’t do nicknames. If your name is Oliver I will call you Oliver. Not Ollie. Part of the reason that coming up with a boys name was so stressful for me – I wanted something that could not be shortened… On that note, please don’t call me Nay, or Belly and I would really appreciate if Lee-Lee did not catch on. It is Liana. Beautiful and simple and unique. Thank you!

And one more bonus ‘random thing about me’…
I love to look up. The sky, clouds, trees. So great to see things from a different perspective!

For those of you who have been following along for a while, or know me in real life – does any of this surprise you? Do you relate to any of these things???

I too don’t drink coffee. I’ve never tasted it!

It was so lovely to know you more. I will always meet you for ‘coffee’ and drink water. XReplyCancel

Sorry, I laughed at your vomit story! I also like taking photos of tree tops and clouds, I don’t know why, and I hardly every do anything with them – but it intrigues me!ReplyCancel

    I loved this! So funny!
    You don’t like cheese? I can’t get enough…
I’m so with you on the nicknames, I never use them either.
With the tattoo, I’ve got two and it hurt but not that much, I didn’t cry or anything, and compared to childbirth there is NO contest. A tattoo would be a breeze! xxReplyCancel

Enjoyable read Rene. Best thing I ever did was leave the corporate world too. Love that you are a self taught photographer. I recently bought an Olympus PEN EP5 the vintage looking one and I’m starting to reteach myself how to use an SLR manually.ReplyCancel

haha Tiphanie – actually you and my Dad are prob the only ones that call me Nay, so I can tolerate that! But strangers or people I don’t know – no thanks!ReplyCancel

This is great…. I think I knew most of them and I am exactly the same with the tattoo sort of maybe want one but the pain element scares me! Because my name has been shortened my whole life I tried to pick names for my kids that wouldn’t end up shortened. Still can’t believe you ever worked a KFC 😉ReplyCancel
